The build up of nitrate can result in unwanted algae growth and the slowing down of coral growth.

The nitrate concentration in a reef aquarium should be lower than 1 mg/L.

Just as with nitrite, many nitrate test kits are prone to amine interference.

Copper is often used as a treatment for parasite infested fish and it is essential that the correct concentration is used as too high levels can be toxic to marine fish and invertebrates.

Tap water can also be naturally high in copper and it is therefore advisable to test for this on a regular basis.

The Salifert test kit offers a very sensitive and accurate test for measuring dissolved or weakly chelated copper with a pH of 7.5 - 9.

Lasts for several copper cures or provides sufficient for up to 50 tests on tap or aquarium water as a routine check.  Ca be used for marine, fresh and garden pond water.  Strongly chelated copper will only be partly or not at all detected.

Calcium is a major constituent of coralline algae, the skeletal material of hard corals and the skeletal needles of soft/leather corals. In many cases too low a calcium concentration retards coral and coralline algae growth.

Calcium also fulfills many important biological functions.  In a healthy aquarium, the growth and multiplication of corals, calcareous algae and other organisms can result in calcium depletion. To maintain a stable environment it is important that the calcium content should not fluctuate by more than 15 mg/L from the optimum range of 420 - 450 mg/L so regular testing should be carried out.  This means that any calcium test used should have an accuracy of significantly less than 15mg/L otherwise it will be difficult to monitor such fluctuations.  The Salifert test kit measures in steps of 5 mg/L and has an accuracy of 10 mg/L.  The color change is precise, detecting small but significant fluctuations in the concentration of calcium.  The test is not affected by magnesium.  Sufficient for 50-100 tests.  Can be used for marine water, freshwater and garden pond water.

Why are amino acids required?

The skeletal meterial of the corals in built-up with alternating layers of calcium carbonate and layers rich in amino acids. These amino acids fulfil many important functions. They stabilize the skeletal material avoiding the transformation into a totally different crystal stucture, and they also decrease the negative effect of phosphate on the coral growth. Furthermore, amino acids serve as a food for most corals and benefecial bacteria.

Prevent rock-slides in your aquarium - this construction epoxy is designed specifically for bonding rocks and corals in a reef aquarium and cures underwater to the colour of coralline algae.

Aquascape is a two-part epoxy putty that has been specially developed by D-D for use in salt water and freshwater aquariums and other underwater applications.

Uses in the Aquarium: In the marine aquarium it is ideal for bonding together live rock to form complicated structures and avoiding rock falls caused by turbo snails, sea urchins and strong current flow, for preparing coral frags and for creating clam bases to prevent them being attacked and ultimately killed by bristle worms. In addition it can be used to repair leaky pipe work, broken equipment or for bonding items to the aquarium glass.

Aquascape has been developed to be stickier than most epoxies so that it bonds easier to wet substrates and the purple version has been formulated to dry under water to the colour of coralline algae. This makes it initially more natural within a marine aquarium during the period before being encrusted with true coralline algae. Note however that when cured out of the water the colour will be darker representing the deep red coralline algae colour.

Use it for attaching stony corals, gorgonians, and other sessile invertebrates in natural positions on the live rock in aquariums.

Also for attaching coral “frags” in coral culturing. Use with AquaStik™ to attach larger coral heads.

HOW TO USE:

1. First put freshly mixed AquaStik on live rock.

2. Push the coral base into the AquaStik and then remove the coral, leaving the impression of the coral base in the AquaStik left in place on the live rock.

3. Allow the AquaStik to harden for 20 minutes.

4. Next put CorAffix on the coral base and press it into the impression made in the AquaStik, forming a secure bond in 20 seconds.
